Abby - I'm so sorry to hear all of this. I work mainly with children with hearing loss (mostly sensorineural hearing loss). But your thoughts and reflections on experiencing hearing loss for the first time have been particularly poignant for me to read as the kids I work with can't articulate all these things. Hoping you find a good audiologist! I work with some really wonderful ones.

I have nothing to say other than I am sad for you, and I hold grief for you. I am sitting on the other side of this little planet in a ramen shop, reading your update, and feeling heartbroken for what you must feel; I cannot imagine. Love and care for you and wish you whatever healing and peace you can find. xo

Love you friend. There is the failure of the body and then on top of it there is the damn mind adding its own brand of torture in the form of what ifs and why's.

I appreciate you writing about this!!

I have never commented before but please know I appreciate your writing and book recommendations. I have worn hearing aids since I was 4 years old (I am now 34), so your post hits home for me. I am so sorry, Abby. I know I am a complete stranger, but if you ever want book recommendations on hearing loss or if there’s anything I can do to offer support, please feel welcome to reach out: janine . a . allen (at) gmail . com (delete the spaces).

All best,

Janine
