Thank you so much for writing this. I got an angry lump in my throat just reading it since it's something I've experienced and witnessed so often in different contexts.

I wonder how these homeschool moms, with their strong ideals and excellent reading lists, would feel to realize that L.M. Montgomery's Matthew Cuthbert had a higher view of women's intellectual merits than they do: "Well now, I guess it wasn't a boy that took the Avery scholarship, was it! It was a girl - my girl - my girl that I'm proud of."

You probably don't remember me, but I was one of your speech and debate students years ago and have followed your writing for years. So first, thank you for writing, you along with other brilliant thoughtful women have shaped my thoughts and given me space to think differently about so many things that I grew up with and for that I am grateful.

Secondly, the vicious women you spoke about here reminded me of something I read in Shannon Harris' new memoir. Speaking of women, “There are many living in these cages. I know because I see them claw and nip and fight. I see them stand guard and protect what little they have for themselves. I see them attack in jealousy when another woman gets a larger piece. And I know what it is to be held down by a woman who doesn’t want to share what little she has. And this is what I know. Only starving women do that.”
